Chapter 208: Chapter 201 I fell in love with you at first sight
“So how much are you planning to charge me? If it’s too expensive, I can’t afford it. I’ll have to pay in kind,” Qiao Jing said.
Upon hearing this, Qiao Jing rolled her eyes subtly without saying a word.
“No money? The global executive director of the Overseas Group, and you’re telling me you have no money?”
“You’ve been investigating me? I didn’t realize you were so interested. Actually, you didn’t need to bother; if you had asked me, I would have told you everything,” Qipei responded.
Qiao Jing figured it out; with Wu Xirui’s mouth and his character, there was no point in taking him too seriously.
“I heard it from Captain Zhao,” she admitted.
“Ah–then I’m really disappointed. I thought you had someone investigate me specifically.”
As their conversation was underway, rain suddenly began to pour down from the sky, quickly and urgently.
“I better drive you there,” Wu Xirui suggested.
Although Qiao Jing didn’t want to trouble Wu Xirui, the rain was getting heavier, and she certainly didn’t want to get wet if she could ride in a car.
“Okay.”
Eventually, Qiao Jing got into the car with Wu Xirui.
“By the way, there’s something I want to ask for your help with,” Wu Xirui said, glancing at Qiao Jing.
“What is it?” she inquired.
“I have a banquet to attend in a couple of days. I don’t have a female companion. Could you do me a favor and accompany me?” he proposed.
Qiao Jing looked at Wu Xirui with suspicion, “You’re short of female companions?”
With Wu Xirui’s extraordinary status, noble as he was and handsome as one in a million, other than his not-so-serious mouth, the entire condition of this man was exceptionally good. Such a person short of female companions?
Tell that to the ghosts, they wouldn’t believe it either!
“It’s not exactly a shortage, but those women have too much of an agenda. I’m just afraid of being devoured by the wolves,” Wu Xirui lamented as though he were the most pitiable.
Qiao Jing was speechless; this person might appear harmless, but in reality, he was no simple character.
Could a simple character become the CEO of the Overseas Group?
Moreover, a normal person with his condition would be resting and healing properly.
Instead, he was challenging himself with various intense sports.
Anyone who saw him as a sheep was frankly an idiot.
“What exactly are you after? Why must it be me?” she demanded.
Qiao Jing wasn’t foolish, quite the opposite in fact.
Meeting Wu Xirui wasn’t simple from the start, and what followed was one coincidence after another… how could there be so many coincidences?
The car stopped, and Wu Xirui, leaning his hand on his chin, stared at Qiao Jing with interest.
“If I said, ‘It was love at first sight with you,’ would you believe it?”
Qiao Jing looked back at Wu Xirui expressionlessly, her face void of any additional emotions.
“Doesn’t matter,” Qiao Jing responded indifferently.
Wu Xirui frowned, “Is that your reaction?”
“What else?” Qiao Jing retorted.
“Huh–hahaha–” Wu Xirui burst into laughter, “You really are interesting.”
Qiao Jing opened the car door and got out.
“Umbrella.” Wu Xirui handed an umbrella to Qiao Jing.
“Thank you,” Qiao Jing politely said.
“Will you agree?”
Before Qiao Jing could decline, Wu Xirui continued, “My health has been deteriorating recently. At the banquet, my archenemy will appear. There will inevitably be intense conflicts and disputes between him and me, which might cause my condition to worsen drastically, and I might just pass out,” Wu Xirui said in a pitiful tone.
Qiao Jing could take or leave what Wu Xirui said; she didn’t take it completely seriously.
“I will go, treat you, and then I will leave,” she stated.
“Okay, I’ll pick you up Saturday night,” Wu Xirui had achieved his goal, his eyes filled with an unmistakable laughter, revealing a hint of a dark glint mixed within his smile.
“Boom–boom–boom–” The thunder startled Zhan Qipei, who had been resting with his eyes closed.
“Boss, you’re awake,” said Tang Yan, who was driving. “We’re almost there, just about ten minutes.”
“Hmm,” Zhan Qipei responded flatly and turned on his phone to open the photo that had been sent to him anonymously.
He stared intently at the man in the photo. He was back.
Did he know Qiao Jing? Was it a deliberate approach, or purely coincidence?
Ten minutes later, they arrived at the orphanage.
Qiao Jing came out of the orphanage holding an umbrella.
As soon as Qiao Jing got into the car, she noticed the man staring at her.
“Those guys were no good at fighting, they couldn’t hurt me. Besides, I didn’t even fight back.”
“Was it him who made the move?” Zhan Qipei opened the photo, pointing at Wu Xirui in the image.
“Yes,” Qiao Jing honestly replied.
“How do you know this person? How come he just happened to appear near you to play the hero?” Zhan Qipei asked, his eyes dark and inscrutable.
“It was a coincidence. I was asking for directions, and then we got to know each other.”
“Just a coincidence?”
“If you don’t believe me, then let it be.” Qiao Jing was always like this; if someone asked her something, she either didn’t want to say it, or she’d just tell it straight.
Whether the other person believed it or not was their concern.
“It’s not that I don’t believe you, I just find this coincidence too suspicious,” Zhan Qipei hurriedly explained, concerned that Qiao Jing might misunderstand his doubts.
Qiao Jing remained silent, looking out the car window as the rain fell harder, blurring the street scenery like a mosaic.
“Those people following you, I will investigate thoroughly, you don’t have to worry, I will not let anyone hurt you,” the man’s voice was like water, deep and resonant, bringing an inexplicable sense of security and assurance.
Qiao Jing’s mouth slightly parted, a warm feeling inexplicably surging in her heart.
“By the way, I have an event this Saturday. Do you have time to accompany me?”
“This Saturday?” Qiao Jing raised her eyebrows.
“Yes, what’s wrong? Do you have other plans this Saturday?” Zhan Qipei frowned.
Qiao Jing thought about the appointment she had just made with Wu Xirui; she always kept her word and never broke promises.
“I need to see a patient.”
Qiao Jing didn’t mention that she was going to see Wu Xirui, to prevent Zhan Qipei from getting needlessly jealous.
“Can’t it be postponed?” Zhan Qipei really wanted Qiao Jing to accompany him, but–
“Never mind, I won’t force you.”
It was probably for the best if she didn’t go; every time he took Qiao Jing to a party, she ended up being eyed by a pack of wolves.
If he went to the party, he couldn’t avoid mingling with some bosses for business discussions. What if he got distracted, and one or two unruly wolves approached Qiao Jing?
On Saturday morning, Qiao Jing received a message from Wu Xirui.
“I’ve picked out a dress for you, along with jewelry, shoes, and a bag. The courier should be arriving soon. I really hope you can wear this set to the event.”
Qiao Jing frowned, “I’m just going to treat you.”
Wu Xirui: “But you can’t just wear a T-shirt and jeans, can you? Although it’s not impossible, if you were dressed like that, you’d definitely be the center of attention.”

Reading this, Qiao Jing thought for a moment; if she really dressed like that, it would indeed make her stand out remarkably.
“Ding-dong–” The doorbell rang.
The courier had arrived.
It must be the package Wu Xirui sent her.
As Qiao Jing opened the door to go out, she saw Zhan Qipei signing for the courier.
