Chapter 212: Chapter 205: You Want a Child?
Qiao Jing recalled the several encounters she had had with Wu Xirui, and she had long suspected that things were too coincidental.
However, up to now, Wu Xirui had done nothing to harm her, so she had not delved deeper into the matter.
Now that she thought about it, everything suddenly became clear.
Suddenly, Qiao Jing thought of something; her eyes lit up, and she looked up at Zhan Qipei.
“You said that the person who tried to assassinate you in Autumn Water Village–”
She stopped there because, firstly, she had no evidence, and secondly, it was Zhan Qipei’s family matter, and it wasn’t appropriate for her, an outsider, to make wild guesses here.
“I’ve thought about it too, but there’s no evidence,” Zhan Qipei sat down, half-lowering his eyelids, his brow furrowed as he thought analytically about the matter.
Qiao Jing’s attention was drawn to the droplets of water condensing on the man’s hair. The droplets grew until the strands of hair could no longer hold them, and they fell.
Qiao Jing clearly saw a barely visible expression appear on the man’s face.
It must have been because the droplet was too cold, which caused the man a slight discomfort.
“Don’t think too much about it, go take a shower quickly, be careful of catching a cold.”
Qiao Jing’s words made Zhan Qipei put all his worries behind him, and a deadly enchanting smile bloomed on his face. He leaned toward Qiao Jing, resting his hand on the back of the sofa behind her, enveloping her in his embrace.
“Are you concerned about me?”
At this moment, the man’s posture was too overbearing. Qiao Jing hated people who were domineering toward her, but the man’s face wore a gentle and indulgent smile, making it seem as though he was cradling her in his palms, afraid she would fall, cherishing her as if she would melt in his mouth.
It made her hard to start disliking him.
Qiao Jing felt a bit uncomfortable with the man speaking to her from such a close distance. Oddly, her heartbeat inexplicably sped up a bit.
Qiao Jing pushed the man’s shoulders, creating some distance, “Go take your shower quickly. We are living under the same roof, and if you catch a cold, you might pass it to me. It’s fine if I get sick, but the lab is mostly filled with older professors, and it would be terrible if they caught it from me.”
“Your fault,” Qiao Jing added.
The smile on Zhan Qipei’s face widened slightly, “You’re putting such a big hat on my head, I can’t bear that. Alright, I’ll go take a shower.”
Zhan Qipei got up, and Qiao Jing also stood.
Just as Qiao Jing was supporting herself on the sofa, preparing to stand up with Zhan Qipei, he suddenly pretended to slip, toppling her onto the sofa.
“Sss–”
The man’s face knocked against the one in front, causing Qiao Jing a slight pain.
Zhan Qipei had only intended to take the opportunity to hug the girl, but he stepped on her clothing by accident and really fell, his face getting buried into it.
Though the benefit was great, the knock was a bit too hard.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to do that. Are you alright? I hope I didn’t hurt you badly?”
Zhan Qipei was both anxious and heartbroken, fearing his nose was too hard and had hurt the girl.
In his anxiety, he quickly pulled away the clothing in front of the girl.
With a “smack,”
a heavy slap landed on his face.
Zhan Qipei felt the slap was worth it because the benefit was simply too enjoyable.
Unfortunately, it was just a look.
Twenty minutes later, Zhan Qipei came out of the bathroom.
“Achoo–” Qiao Jing sneezed.
“Did you catch a cold?” Zhan Qipei became anxious, and before he could get closer, he himself couldn’t help but let out a loud sneeze.
Qiao Jing looked up at Zhan Qipei, and the two stared at each other, eyes locked.
“I’ll get the medicine.”
Zhan Qipei brought over the medicine and water.
“Take the medicine first.”
“Have you taken yours?” Qiao Jing sniffled, her nasal blockage severe.
“You go first.”
Qiao Jing slightly furrowed her brows, then took the medicine and water from his hands.
Suddenly, a fleeting distortion crossed Zhan Qipei’s eyes, his legs weakened, and he slowly sat down, raising his hand to his forehead.
After Qiao Jing finished taking the medicine, she noticed something was off with the man.
“You don’t have a fever, do you?”
Zhan Qipei raised his hand to touch his forehead, his eyes darkening slightly.
“No.”
He would absolutely never tell Qiao Jing that he had a fever.
He and Qiao Jing had been caught in the rain together, yet he ended up with a fever, while Qiao Jing just caught a cold. What did that indirectly imply?
His constitution was inferior to Qiao Jing’s!
No man could accept such a thing.
Even though he had been in the rain longer than Qiao Jing, it still wasn’t acceptable.
Qiao Jing stared at Zhan Qipei’s face, which was flushed, his neck also red, and upon listening closely to his breathing, it seemed a bit heavy.
All these signs indicated that the man most likely had a fever.
Having deduced this, Qiao Jing stood up and reached out to touch the man’s forehead.
Before her fingertips could make contact, the man grabbed her wrist, stopping her motion.
“I’m fine, I’m just tired, I’m going to sleep.”
Qiao Jing frowned, analyzing the man’s stubborn nature, probably guessing some things, but chose not to point them out.
“What, you won’t let me touch? You dislike me?”
Qiao Jing’s deliberate provocation proved quite effective as Zhan Qipei immediately released her hand.
Qiao Jing slightly bent forward, a sly gleam appearing in her eyes as she continued reaching for the man’s forehead.
Boiling hot.
At least 40 degrees Celsius.
To think he would deny having a fever for the sake of his pride, this man really was–
Qiao Jing shook her head speechless, but just as she turned around, Zhan Qipei grabbed her clothes.
“Where are you going? Are you afraid of catching my illness, trying to keep your distance?”
Holding her forehead in frustration, Qiao Jing said, “You really think I’m that heartless? When I was sick, you brought me water and medicine. You think when you’re sick, I would avoid you? I’m not that awful.”
Having said that, Qiao Jing added, “Go back to your room to rest; we don’t have any fever reducers left. I’ll go buy some.”
“That’s too much trouble, you’re still ill, I’ll just drink some hot water,” said Zhan Qipei, expressing concern for his wife.
“I only have a common cold, you think I’m like you, suffering from such a high fever?”
No sooner had Qiao Jing finished speaking than Zhan Qipei stood up, his expression cold and serious.
“I don’t have a fever, you’re mistaken.”
Qiao Jing “…”
“I’m going to work now,” Zhan Qipei said before returning to his room, opening his laptop, ready to work.
“Snap–” Qiao Jing raised her hand and shut the laptop.
Why did this man insist on suffering for the sake of pride?
Zhan Qipei opened a drawer and took out some documents.
Qiao Jing slapped her hand down on them.
“Are you a child?”
Zhan Qipei looked up, “Are you hoping for a child?”

Qiao Jing “…”
Qiao Jing clenched the hand resting on the documents.
If it weren’t for the fact that Zhan Qipei was sick, she really felt like hitting someone.
“Lie down on the bed and rest,” Qiao Jing pointedly said with a hint of anger.
Zhan Qipei showed no inclination to comply, instead asking, “Do you prefer a boy or a girl?”
